We are always thinking of ways to update our home to create a refreshing atmosphere. What’s the cheapest and easiest way to update a space? Just add color to any room. It is a simple, do it yourself way to update any space.
“You can paint the entire room or just an accent wall – it [livens] the space and gives a lift,” said Barb Greco of Barb Greco Interior Design. “There are also new wall coverings that are beautiful and can add a little touch of drama to a powder room or bedroom.”
Sometimes it’s easier said than done to pick new colors for a certain room. A great tip is to check out your current fashion magazine to find out the trendy colors for a space.
“The trend colors change with the seasons and the best place to find them is in fashion magazines,” explained Greco. “I always say, look to the runway, because fashion for the home follows the fashion colors.”
Once you choose the colors for a space, you have to figure out how to work with them.
“The best way to work with [colors] is to start out small such as with accessories – pillows, throws, vases and lamps,” Greco added. “This way you can decide if you would like to carry it further, perhaps as an accent wall paint color or a fabric selection for a piece of furniture.”
Don’t know where to begin? This is where a designer can be most effective.
“Not only do we coordinate colors, but we can coordinate the entire job and make it run smoothly and efficiently,” Greco said. “Using a designer takes the guess work out of the equation.
“I like to think of myself as a guide. I take my clients ideas and guide them to the right products and contractors to make their dreams a reality.”
